Rob Speranza -Music conventions

 4 key areas:

-Creativity and originality

-Technicality

-Marketability

-Expression

Sharp camera shots, high quality slow motion shots, originality, she’s expressing her views and points, tells as story and the video helps the music make sense with more of a storyline.

Basics of production in the making of music videos:

- Figure behaviour, action, performance

- Artist performs to camera. This is not journalistic or an interview. They don’t look off camera. They are looking at the camera, at the audience.

- In terms of non-performances, for actors involved with a storyline, they don’t usually look at camera unless the storyline or concept calls for it.

Camera activity:

- Music videos are often not still or static, unless there’s a lot in frame.

- Movement

-  Matching the pace of the music

- Moving with the rhythm / pace of the music

- Jibs / Cranes / Ronins / Steadicam / Osmo / Drones

Edit speed:

- Matching the pace of the music : fast pace, slow pace (cutting to the beat)

- Matching colours and the framing

Look at where the eyes of the viewer are at - relative point of interest - makes fast cutting possible

Colour and exposure - don’t do such large contrasts - manage colour correction

Use the beat of the music - fast cutting

Create resemblance elements - images /words

Match camera/action movement - lets shot flow
